The renowned sage Adi Shankara established the Srinegri Sharda Peetha in the 8th century. This is a famous matha or a monastery that lies on the banks of the Tunga River. The monastery is famous for its sculpture of Goddess Sharda in the temple’s inner sanctum. Lush green trees surround the monastery complex.
